Homecoming 2007 - Theme?

We've been asked to coordinate a vote of the student body to choose the theme for Homecoming Week 2007, which is scheduled for October 1 - 6, 2007. In our next meeting we'll go over a list of suggestions prepared by Mrs. Ewing and begin the preparation of ballots. We should implement and tally the votes by the first week of May so that other organizations (such as the band and cheerleaders) can have time to get prepared.

A Bill
To Allow Teachers to Waive Finals for All Students Maintaining an A-average in Their Class For the Entire Year.

Currently, seniors are allowed to have finals waived if they maintain a minimum average of a 93 in a course for the entire year. This policy follows the teacher’s discretion, and is seen as a tool to combat the dreaded “Senioritis” and provide Seniors an award for maintaining good grades throughout the entirety of their senior year. I see this as an opportunity to motivate not only the senior class, but the entire school. If this policy were applied to all students in the school, students would be awarded for the hard work they put into a class for the entire year.
As with the Senior policy, this would still be at the teacher’s discretion. To be eligible to have a final waived, the student must have received a minimum grade of 93 for every quarter and for the first semester. Since finals are not designed to be punitive, the grade that will be on the report card as the final exam will be the grade a student would have received if it were not to change the final average.

For instance: Student A has a 94 1st quarter, a 96 2nd quarter, a 95 on the midterm, a 93 3rd quarter, and a 97 4th quarter, the student will not have to take the final exam and will receive a grade of 95 for the final exam and a final grade for the course of 95.

I honestly believe that if this policy is implemented, students will work harder throughout the course of the year, and the school will see a marked increase in the percentage of students on Honor Roll and High Honor Roll. This policy would take effect in the 2007-2008 academic year.
